Writers Succeeding in Schools

Developing creativity and improving literacy are key aspects of the Curriculum for Excellence and writers can make a valuable contribution to this initiative.

Working with schoolchildren can be a wonderful experience - if you're prepared for it. There are increasing opportunities for writers to work in schools, especially now that the Curriculum for Excellence is being implemented in Scotland.

If you are currently working with schoolchildren, or are looking for opportunities to do so, this series of workshops will make sure you are well prepared.

Being prepared involves:

  • knowing how to liaise with school staff to make sure the event runs smoothly
  • being able to quickly capture the attention of the audience and hold it
  • being able to positively keep control of the audience
  • knowing how to make the experience meaningful and memorable

The content of the three half days covers everything you need to know to ensure that your sessions are successful - from your first contact with the school, to leaving with applause ringing in your ears and an invitation to come back soon.

Workshop 1 - Be Prepared

  • Understanding  the process of presenting in schools
